About Course

As estheticians, we use our bodies all day long in our work. Therefore, it is essential to protect ourselves against injury by using proper body mechanics, which is how you move, sit, stand, and use your muscles during treatments.

Ergonomics is equally important. It is how you set up your workspace, equipment, and tools to support your body’s movements. Setting up your workspace properly, and how you position yourself can make a big difference in preventing chronic pain and bodily injuries.

What Will You Learn?

  • Common injuries and chronic conditions that estheticians are at risk of developing in the treatment room.
  • How estheticians can prevent musculoskeletal injuries, pain, and chronic conditions from developing.
  • How to use proper body mechanics while working in the treatment room.
  • How to use ergonomics to set up your treatment room and use equipment properly.
  • Quick exercises to do between clients to keep your body stronger and less prone to injury.

Body Mechanics and Ergonomics
What are body mechanics and ergonomics? Body mechanics is how you move, sit, stand, and use your muscles during treatments. Ergonomics is about setting up your workspace to support those movements efficiently. The equipment you use and how you position yourself can make a big difference in preventing chronic pain and bodily injuries. Estheticians perform the same motions repetitively during waxing, facials, extractions, and massage etc. Without proper alignment in the wrists and hands, conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome or tendonitis can occur. Similarly, when estheticians lean over clients for long periods of time this puts strain on the spine leading to back and neck pain. Unfortunately, many estheticians leave the industry early due these types of injuries and pain, which are preventable.
